Short answer: For a tablet that stays connected in a vehicle, verify charge stop/resume thresholds, thermal-protection stages and recovery. Plan how the job continues when protection reduces brightness, pauses charging or shuts the device down.
This guide supports the fleet and delivery vehicle tablet solution, whether the tablet remains docked or regularly leaves the cradle for document work.
Describe the whole connected shift
Record driving hours, parking duration, power after ignition off and required off-cradle work. Include navigation, cellular communication, screen brightness and video use in the workload. Evaluate that workload in the intended mounting position, accounting for cabin heat exposure and ventilation.
Request separate operating, charging and storage temperature limits. Match each limit to its relevant task, including charging during a parked interval and photographing documents away from the cradle.
Verify both the stop and resume thresholds
For a supported charge-threshold policy, ask for the stop and resume values, permitted adjustment range and who can change them. Confirm that settings survive a restart or software update. Select the policy around the required undocked task and usable charge.
Check operation from vehicle power while charging is suspended. Request the actual power architecture and battery service instructions, and distinguish hardware-controlled charging from application settings. If battery bypass or battery-free operation is required, ask for explicit support in the proposed configuration.
During evaluation, remove the tablet for the intended document task and record whether the available charge supports it. Then redock, observe charging recovery and compare the result with the documented policy. Include this sequence when reviewing a change to the charging ceiling.
Make the thermal sequence visible
Request the documented protection sequence: brightness or audio reduction, charging suspension, screen-off and shutdown stages where supported. Identify the triggering sensor and threshold, including whether it measures battery, internal or ambient temperature.
Review each stage against the job: a dim display affects readability, reduced audio affects alerts and shutdown interrupts navigation or uploads. Agree how the application identifies an unfinished operation and resumes it after recovery.
Ask the supplier to connect each protection action to its recovery condition in the same record. This gives procurement and IT a shared sequence for checking alerts, uploads and driver actions during the evaluation.
Confirm recovery, not just protection
For each stage, record the cooling or driver action required to restore charging, brightness and normal operation. Check ACC behaviour after a protection shutdown. Follow the supported recovery sequence with protection functions enabled.
For MDM and OTA, confirm platform support, enrollment, licensing and policy ownership for the selected device. Define update periods and verify that the charging policy remains in place afterward.
Verify the offered configuration before rollout
Use documented safe operating conditions and the supplier's evaluation method. Keep protections enabled and stay within specified limits.
- Record firmware, battery, cradle and power supply.
- Observe operation with the charge stop/resume policy active.
- Review evidence for each thermal stage and its recovery conditions.
- Check readability, alerts and application continuity under the permitted workload.
- Undock for the required task, then check charging and job recovery after redocking.
- Assign fault review, battery replacement and configuration control.
Follow the supplier's service procedure for temperature warnings, repeated shutdowns or a swollen battery; remove a damaged battery from service. The battery-health guide covers service and replacement questions.
Make the commercial scope match the operating policy
Identify standard charging controls, firmware-dependent functions and separately supplied administration or support work. Pair that scope with the vehicle power and ACC plan. Provide connected hours, parking patterns, cabin exposure and the off-cradle task when discussing the configuration.
Final configuration, test documents and availability are confirmed in the quotation.
