Short answer: Select the complete vehicle-to-cradle power path and define ACC behaviour alongside it. For a 12 V, 24 V or 36 V vehicle, confirm the voltage at the chosen connection, transient conditions and tablet behaviour when ignition changes.
Use this guide with the fleet and delivery vehicle tablet solution to specify a detachable tablet or continuously connected workstation.
Choose the take-off point before choosing the harness
Confirm an accessory socket's rating and ignition behaviour with the vehicle owner. For an existing telematics-box output, ask its owner for voltage, spare current capacity and supported external load. Near a diagnostic connector, have the qualified installer identify a permitted supply and keep diagnostic wiring separate.
Record the approved supply, return path, fuse, routing and whether power remains live while parked. Name the matching cable and any conversion or protection module for each vehicle type.
Compare these routes before ordering the harness. The chosen source determines the adapter, retained cable and installation work. Document the selected arrangement so the same vehicle type can be evaluated with the same parts.
| Proposed source | Confirm with its owner | Quotation consequence |
|---|---|---|
| Accessory socket | Rating, retention and ignition-controlled or permanent supply | Correct vehicle adapter, retained cable and routing |
| Vehicle-box output | Output specification, spare capacity and supported connection | Named harness and responsibility for the box connection |
| Approved fixed feed | Vehicle-approved take-off, protection and parking behaviour | Installation, protection components and documented wiring |
Match the 6–36 V input to the actual supply
Confirm which cradle connector accepts the published input range and specify the supply for each additional port separately. Include the screen load, tablet charging and connected peripherals in the power budget.
Request the supply envelope during operation and charging. A nominal 36 V system may exceed a 36 V maximum input; confirm whether a converter or another cradle variant is needed. Review supplier ISO 7637-2 test documents for the selected power assembly, including tested input, severity, operating state and results.
Specify what ACC should do in each operating state
Confirm whether the ignition signal starts the device from fully off, wakes it from sleep or changes a power-management state. Specify the starting state, wiring and behaviour when the signal is absent.
At trip end, decide whether the tablet must complete an upload, enter standby or shut down. Ask for documented settings and defaults, including any required ignition-off timing, vehicle-battery cut-off and unattended recovery.
Run a vehicle-state acceptance sequence
Evaluate engine start, normal operation, ignition off, the intended parking interval and the next start with the selected parts and application. Record reboots, charge interruptions, peripheral loss and return to the expected job screen. Use the equipment suppliers' measurement methods and limits.
Repeat after a document-capture task outside the cab. Check connector retention and charge recovery after redocking. Assign parked-current measurement and the vehicle-battery protection decision to the installation owner. Include application login and unfinished-job recovery in the sequence, with their owner present.
Ask for a complete power arrangement
List the cradle input variant, vehicle adapter or converter, protection components, harness, ACC connection and installation work. Identify who supplies each item and who owns the vehicle-side connection.
The vehicle-mount guide covers retention, placement and reach. Use the USB-C power-path guide to review any separate USB-C source, cable and device arrangement. Bring measured voltage, parking duration and required ACC behaviour to the quotation discussion.
Final configuration, test documents and availability are confirmed in the quotation.
