Short answer: Choose a cradle by the functions needed while docked and the recovery sequence after removal. Match the tablet, power connection, data interfaces, camera, antenna and mount as a complete arrangement.

For a fleet or delivery vehicle tablet project, use this guide alongside the tablet docking guide to specify the vehicle cable set and removable mounting arrangement.

Decide whether the tablet stays in the cab

For document photographs outside the cab, check latch access, lock operation, hand clearance and accessory disconnection. Identify which cables stay on the cradle and which travel with the tablet.

Run removal and redocking through the actual application: the job and its photographs should remain associated, and required peripherals should recover. Assign record handling and reconnection checks to the application owner.

Separate the pogo-pin interface from the power terminal

For the matched tablet and cradle, request the functions carried by the pogo pins, alignment requirements and cleaning instructions. Confirm both charging and the required data paths.

For a phoenix-style power terminal, specify the mating connector, polarity, wire, input range and installation requirements. Document the main supply and ACC control connections separately.

Build an interface schedule for the offered variant

InterfaceWhat to identifyWhat must work in acceptance
RS232Peripheral, connector pinout, serial settings and supported application or driverThe correct record reaches the application, including reconnection after redocking
USBHost/device role, port type, power budget and accessory supportThe required accessory operates with the other connected equipment
AHD camera inputSupported signal format, camera power, cable and recording pathLive image and, if required, recorded footage are available in the specified application
External GNSSReceiver, supported antenna route, connector, cable and antenna locationThe application receives the intended positioning source while docked and after release

For AHD video, identify the camera, power, recording application, storage and retention policy, and who supplies each. For RS232 and USB, test the actual peripheral, adapter, protocol and application together using the intended data.

Choose an external GNSS route only when the task needs it

Assess reception at the planned tablet position. Distinguish an antenna path to the tablet's receiver from a separate receiver in the cradle. Confirm source selection in the application and behaviour after undocking.

Specify the antenna, connector, cable and installation location; evaluate positioning along the intended route, including interruptions to satellite reception. The vehicle antenna-path guide covers radio and docking requirements.

Specify the complete RAM or VESA mounting arrangement

List the cradle, plate or adapter, arm, vehicle base and fasteners. Confirm the exact RAM components or VESA pattern, assembly load capacity, retention and clearance.

Review placement with the vehicle owner and installer, keeping sight lines, controls and safety equipment clear. Request supplier vibration/shock documents for the offered tablet, cradle and mount assembly, including applicable ISO 16750 test conditions and results.

Compare quotations as complete, named kits

Identify the tablet configuration, cradle, latch or lock, mounting chain, power harness and ACC connection. List required cameras, antennas and interface cables as included, optional or buyer-supplied.

Verify retention, permissible movement, cable strain, ignition transitions, simultaneous peripherals and redocking. Use the vehicle-mount guide for placement and reach. Bring the interface schedule and vehicle details to the quotation discussion.

Check the kit as it will be installed: confirm access to the latch, cable routing around the mount and clearance for removing the tablet. Repeat the task with the required peripherals connected together. Record the selected parts and supported configuration so the supplier, application team and installer review the same assembly before an order.

Final configuration, test documents and availability are confirmed in the quotation.
